Canvas….

25 May

Good Morning!  It is a VERY rainy Saturday here in Halifax, we are expected to get 50 ml of rain today so it is a good day to spend inside and get some crafting done.  I made this canvas about a week ago while crafting with my friend Lauren on Skype.  I had to make something as an example for a co-worker who was bringing her family over to my place for craft day.  Lauren of course is always up for a challenge and she dove right in and made one herself!  Her canvas turned out much nicer than mine!  She will post hers shortly and you should check it out!  Here is the link to Lauren’s Blog   Lauren and I always have such a good time crafting together 🙂  Okay, enough gab, here is my canvas…

Mixed Media Creations…

19 Mar

Good Morning!  I am back to work today after a nice long weekend.  I spent yesterday home alone in my craft room playing with my mixed media supplies and researching loads of tutorials that are available on pintrest.  I decided to just abandon all of that and  just apporach it like a card in a layout that I was happy with….

Canvas1Again, I am using My Mind’s Eye paper…. It’s one of my favorites. 🙂  A couple of weeks ago I picked up some scalloped circle punches from Kim at The Cutting Garden because I wanted to make flowers with them and they were a quick and easy tool for me to make up a bunch of them.  I love being able to make my own flowers for my projects because you can always find corresponding paper to make them match your projects perfectly.

Canvas2I used one of my music stamps and stamped all over the flowers and then spritzed them with water and crumpled them up.  They turned out so pretty!  Modeling Paste is one of my favorite things about Mixed Media projects.  I love to use it with stencils and the one I used on this project is called Mini Bubble Doily.  I sprayed it with some 7 gypsies pastel pink color wash once it dried.

Canvas3I wanted to have some type of interesting border to this so I used the Martha Stewart Wild Flowers punch around the page punch set.  I love the pretty soft feeling it gave to this project.  Kim got a new Butterfly punch in at The Cutting Garden by Martha Stewart and I just HAD to have it *roll eyes*  I really wish I could get off this butterfly kick but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen anytime soon! LOL!!!  This punch is really neat… it is a double punch so it punches a solid background butterfly and the another more detailed one for on top.  I have only just begun to play with this punch.. I am sure it will become my new favorite 🙂  The flourish is by Cheery Lynn and I have this die in two different sizes, I use these dies often.

Canvas4So there you have it!  A super fun project… lovely and messy, just how Mixed Media art is supposed to be!  I hope you have a chance to give it a try!  If you ever have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and I will be happy to answer what I can for you.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your day!!!

Today is my Blog Anniversary….

18 Mar

Wow… thank goodness WordPress told me LOL!!!  I didn’t even notice!  I started my blog 2 years ago today 🙂  Yesterday at The Cutting Garden it was mixed media day, we all got together and created canvasses.  It was tons of fun!  Today was my day off and I got up this morning still in the mixed media mode….

mme1I created this canvas using My Mind’s Eye paper and stamps.  I began by stamping all over tissue paper and then adhering it to the canvas.  Then I got out my stencils and modeling paste and made a lovely raised pattern over top of the tissue paper.

mme2Once that dried, I spritzed it with some country blue spray and some shimmer mist and began decorating.  I cut out a heart and trimmed around it with lace.  This is my idea of mixed media…. lace, flowers, butterflies and flourishes.

mme3I added what ever embellishments that if felt looked nice, I just placed everything on the canvas and made adjustments until I was happy with the layout.

mme4I smeared some Gesso in spots to give it a bit of a softer look.  This was a very fun canvas to create!  I love the idea of just doing what ever you feel like doing.  If you haven’t had a chance to try to make one of this, I highly recommend it!

Mixed Media….

24 Feb

Hey there blog friends!  I am having a great weekend!  I spent yesterday home with a few of my crafty friends creating up a storm. We made a few pretty cards and I will post them a little later.  I have been in my craft room today making another mixed media project.  I love the fact that there are no rules with this form of crafting, you can just do what ever you want!  I think it’s the randomness that really appeals to me.  Okay so here is what I created….

MM2MM3MM4MM5MM1The sentiment stamp is by Dylusions…  and the image is by Prima, Julie Nutting Mixed Media doll stamp.  These stamps are perfect for mixed media projects.  I stamped her twice, first on cream card stock and then again on some design paper and paper pieced her dress.

Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Mixed Media… my first attempt…

14 Jan

Hi Blog Friends…. I have a little project to share with you tonight, that I created on the weekend during a crafty night with some friends at The Cutting Garden.  This is my first attempt at anything that resembles Mixed Media and to be honest, I am a bit on the fence with it.  I am sure I will have another go at it, but I think I need to learn a bit more.  Have a look…

Mixed Media 001Mixed Media 002Mixed Media 003Sorry about the glare in the picture, I think if I do anymore of these I am going to have to build a bigger light box!  For this project I did loads of inking, and used Modeling Paste with stencils (LOVED THAT PART!)  The modeling paste is very cool!  And of course, I couldn’t say a project was complete with out butterflies and flowers! LOL!!!

Well that is my latest attempt at something new….  I think my real interest is going to be with Art Journaling…  that will be my next project I think. 🙂

I hope everyone has a great evening and thanks for stopping by!
